About Sa Pa Town |
|
Sapa is a beautiful and romantic resort town, 38
km from Lao Cai town. At the height of 1,600 m above sea level, the
average temperature of the area is 15-18oC. It is cool in summer and
cold in winter. From May to August, it rains a lot.
The best time to witness the scenic beauty of Sapa is in April and May. The area
is blooming with flowers and green pastures. The clouds that settle in the valley
early in the morning quickly disappear into the mountain tops.
Located at 1,500m above the sea level, Sapa lies on the side of the Hoang Lien Son
Mountains, 333km north west of Hanoi.
How to get here: To reach Sapa, one can take a train to Lao Cai
and from there hop on a bus to Sapa. On Sundays, Nung, Dao, Tay, Cao Lan, Paxi and
Xa Phong minorities make the trip to the foot of Fansipan to take part in the Sunday
market. |

Sapa's vegetation is diversified, ranging from flowers to fruits, among the most
popular are apples, pears, peaches and plums.
Sapa boasts numerous tourist sites, including Ham Rong mountain,
Silver waterfall, Rattan Bridge, Bamboo forest and Ta Phin cave.
Sapa is also the starting point for many climbers looking to reach the top of Fansipan
mountain, the highest on the Indochinese Peninsula at 3,143m. The pyramid-shaped
peak is covered with clouds all year round and temperatures often drop below zero
at high elevations.
SAPA MARKET
Location: Sapa Market is in Sapa Town, Sapa District, Lao Cai Province.
Characteristics: This market of the H’Mong and Red Dao minorities takes place every
Saturday night. The market is a place for trading and exchanging local goods and
products, as well as a meeting place for young people who seek partners by singing
love songs and playing pan-pipes and mouth organs.
BAC HA MARKET
Location: Bac Ha Market is in Bac Ha District, Lao Cai Province; about 80km from
downtown Sapa.
Characteristics: It is a trading centre and meeting place for couples, friends,
and relatives every Sunday. |
